SECUF creates Credit Unions Care Challenge to provide pandemic assistance

The COVID-19 pandemic has left many consumers home-bound, putting a real strain on local businesses. But the “People Helping People” philosophy of credit unions can help. The Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) is inviting all LSCU affiliated credit unions in Alabama, Florida and Georgia to take on the #CreditUnionsCareChallenge. To support your local economy, your credit union can commit just $25 per employee who will then use the $25 to buy a gift certificate or gift card from a locally owned business via online options, to adhere to social distancing protocols.

To double the impact, SECUF is committed to matching every dollar contributed by member credit unions up to $25 per employee. These matched funds will be donated to local community organizations, selected by your credit union.

The SECUF began this initiative to answer the challenge put forth by Tallahassee-based First Commerce Credit Union in its ambitious #LocalStrong campaign. The credit union utilized this campaign to distribute more than $4,000 among more than 150 team members to spend with local businesses.

We were inspired to carry on First Commerce’s vision – and we hope you are too! Several industry partners have also committed to supporting this challenge including Corporate America CU, CUNA Mutual Group, Corporate One FCU and Catalyst Corporate FCU. Let’s show the southeast – and the world – how we can join together to be #CUStrong while supporting #LocalStrong.

We appreciate all our donors. Please take a moment to view this message from SECUF and LSCU.
