The Southeast Disaster Coordinating Council, created in the wake of last year’s hurricanes as a coordinated response team, met Monday morning to discuss efforts over the weekend to assist credit unions in disaster areas around Panama City. CUs are still trying to reach many of their staff as communication is almost non-existent in impacted areas where cell phone towers are down.
The council continues to assess how to meet operational needs of impacted credit unions by providing generators, tarps, mobile branches, and fuel. With serious needs for power, communication, staff, and security, credit unions are working hard to serve members. The best way for others to reach out and help is to donate to the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation. Credit Union staff could be without power and housing for an extended period of time.
According to Juli Lewis, SECUF director, “Sometimes bad days are there to remind us that we have good ones to look forward to.” As we start down the road to recovery and rebuilding after Hurricane Michael, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation is here to help you find those good days again. If your credit union or credit union staff members or volunteers were impacted by Hurricane Michael, please fill out an online grant request which can be found HERE or reach out to Juli Lewis to express your needs. We are here for you and ready to assist in any way that we can!
