Jan Page, CEO of Community South Credit Union in Chipley, FL, had her column published online in Credit Union Journal as she relayed the experiences her credit union employees and members encountered when Hurricane Michael hit the panhandle on Oct. 10 with Category 4 force. With more than one million people without electricity and many without homes, Page explains how she made her members’ wellbeing a priority by making Welfare Calls with the assistance of Community South’s partner LSI.
Page wrote, “Just imagine: you lost your house, you lost your car, you lost your job – and you’ve ultimately lost hope that you can ever have the means to live a normal life again. Then, your credit union calls with a friendly voice to provide guidance and assurance that they care about you and want to help in any way they can. That can be a life-changing moment for someone who has just gone through such devastation.”
