The Hispanic community is the major minority group in the United States and constitute 18 percent of the country’s total population. In 2015, the number of Hispanic households reached 16.7 million, with $687.8 billion in discretionary spending power. This amount represented more than one out of 10 dollars of discretionary income in the country that year. Moreover, 14 percent of Hispanic households are reported to be unbanked. This represents an opportunity for credit unions to develop products and services to engage this significant portion of the population and develop long lasting financial relationships.
