The Alabama Advocacy Conference in Montgomery, AL, on March 20 opened with the keynote presentation from Gov. Kay Ivey, who addressed Alabama’s credit union professionals on the positive direction in which the state is headed. Ivey spoke about the state’s great potential and the need for infrastructure improvements, which will be implemented during her first full term as governor.

“Let us navigate together, remembering when we work together we make better progress,” she said

A former lieutenant governor, Ivey was sworn in as Alabama’s 54th governor in April 2017, taking over the vacant office for the remainder of the term. She was then elected to a full term in November 2018.

The keynote was preceded by the LSCU FedPAC President’s Club Breakfast, an invitation-only event with Chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee Sen. Shay Shelnutt and Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee Rep. Chris Blackshear.

Coffee and light breakfast for the conference were sponsored by Barfield Murphy Shank and Smith.

The closing speaker for the morning was Todd Stacy of Alabama Daily News, who discussed the state of journalism and media in an era of fake news, as well as sharing his perspective on Alabama politics from a media perspective.

During the final morning, credit union leaders also discussed the previous evening’s lawmaker reception, sponsored by Print Resources and held under a tent at ASE Credit Union’s downtown Montgomery branch. More than 60 lawmakers joined the LSCU and credit union leaders to discuss relevant issues.
