In Florida, three cities have reported data breaches, including the most recent, The Village of Key Biscayne. Also compromised were Riviera Beach, which agreed to pay $600,000 in ransom, and Lake City, which paid $460,000 to hackers.
The cyber attackers held data and systems hostage during the attacks. Lake City was targeted by a malware attack known as “Triple Threat” on June 10, rendering many network systems and telephones inoperable.
Riviera Beach hackers were able to access the city’s system when an employee clicked an email link attached to malware. Read more about the attacks here.
