admin121 Financial Donates $1,000 to Rethreaded of Jacksonville for Giving Circle Charity Campaign
In July, 121 Financial Credit Union (121 Financial) launched its Giving Circle charity campaigns, which donates $1,000 to a local Jacksonville-area charity identified by their members each month. Rethreaded of Jacksonville is the first recipient of the Giving Circle.
Rethreaded is a small upcycle business specializing in handcrafted goods made by local survivors of human trafficking. The organization works to renew hope, reignite dreams, and create potential for survivors of human trafficking locally and globally through its business.
Any Jacksonville-area non-political charitable organization with qualifying IRS 501c3 designation is eligible to be considered for support as part of this program, as long as they are nominated by a current 121 Financial member via Facebook. The Giving Circle is a way for members of 121 Financial to come together and give back to the charities they choose.
During the first three weeks of June, local charities were nominated on 121 Financial’s Facebook page, then during the last week of the month, employees of 121 Financial voted for and selected Rethreaded among the candidates.
This is the first Giving Circle by 121 Financial. Another $1,000 is be given to charity at the end of July.
Alabama CU receives grant to support Secret Meals program
Alabama Credit Union recently received a $1,600 grant from Intrepid Ideal Community Fund for Secret Meals for Hungry Children, founded by Alabama CU in 2008. Several hungry children in North Alabama will receive weekend food packs due to the contribution. Based in Huntsville, AL, Intrepid is an employee-owned small business that brings together exceptional engineering and defense contracting knowledge.
Alabama Credit Union created the Secret Meals program with the goal of decreasing the number of children in Alabama and Florida facing hunger over the weekend. With the help of teachers in area schools, children with needs are identified, and vitamin-fortified and nutritional meals are discretely slipped into their backpack on Fridays.
Lakeland branch of PEFCU collects school supplies to ‘Stuff the Bus’ for elementary students
The Lakeland branch of Publix Employees Federal Credit Union is working to help children have the supplies they need to return to school by encouraging the community to “Stuff the Bus” for elementary students. PEFCU is collecting new school supplies to help students from low-income families with the supplies they need to succeed in school. This helps ensure the most at-risk kids have everything they need to start the school year off ready to learn.
The Stuff the Bus event, sponsored by the Lakeland Kiwanis Club, is a community-wide event to collect supplies for children in need, including pencils, pens, scissors, glue, folders, crayons, spiral binders, notebook paper, markers, and backpacks. On Aug 7 from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., the bus will be parked at 404 W. Lime Street across from the Lakeland Center. For details, contact the Kiwanis Club at 863-816-6947.
