While in Washington, D.C. this week, Kevin Johnson, CEO of Suncoast Credit Union and immediate past Chair of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) Board of Directors, along with Grace Newcombe, LSCU’s Senior Director of Federal Advocacy and Communications, met with U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).
Among items discussed were Senator Rubio’s leadership in passing the Paycheck Protection Act, credit union participation in administering loans, support for data privacy legislation, financial literacy efforts led by Florida credit unions, and upcoming legislation being considered by Congress.
Florida credit unions were proud to work alongside Senator Rubio in saving more than 100,000 jobs across the state at the height of the pandemic through the issuance of Paycheck Protection Program loans and providing much needed assistance to Floridians.
As financial literacy is a priority to the Senator, he was thrilled to learn that 92% of Florida credit unions offer financial counseling and literacy courses.
LSCU is grateful to Senator Rubio for recognizing the credit union difference and the impact we are making across the Sunshine State.
