Alabama Advocacy Committee Meets with Governor Kay Ivey to Discuss Financial Literacy

Members of LSCU’s Alabama Advocacy Committee met with Governor Kay Ivey on Wednesday, August 24 in Montgomery to discuss financial literacy for all Alabamians. Alabama is extremely fiscally sound under the leadership of Governor Ivey, and we are fortunate she has a shared interest in financial education for the citizens of this state. LSCU was honored to be a part of Alabama’s Making $ense coalition, a group dedicated to promoting financial literacy through video learning modules last year. The passage of House Joint Resolution 64 (Supporting the Importance of Financial Education), sponsored by Vice Chair of House Financial Services Committee Andy Whitt (R-Madison) in the 2022 Regular Session, set the stage for more comprehensive legislation next session. Thus, we are grateful to have these conversations in the interim with the state’s highest elected official to see that financial literacy remains a top priority.

LSCU’s Senior Director of Governmental Affairs in Alabama, Allison Allen, was grateful to be joined by Mark Johnson, CEO of Naheola Credit Union, Ashley Mobley, AVP at Listerhill Credit Union, Greg Olmstead, CEO of North Alabama Educators Credit Union, Alan Stabler, EVP-CAO and General Counsel of America’s First Federal Credit Union, and Ragan Ingram of Windom, Galliher and Associates.
