Tanya Otsuka Confirmed to Replace Rodney Hood as Member of the Board of the NCUA

Yesterday, Tanya Otsuka, a former Senate Banking Committee staffer, was officially confirmed to fill the expired term of Rodney Hood on the Board of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). In September, President Joe Biden announced Otsuka as his nominee stating that she is a dedicated public servant with over a decade of experience in financial regulation and supervision.

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) welcomes Otsuka as the new Member of the Board of Directors of NCUA. Otsuka supports the credit union industry and is committed to strengthening and growing small credit unions, promoting affordable financial services, and increasing access to capital.

“On behalf of Alabama, Florida, and Georgia credit unions, we want to congratulate Ms. Tanya Otsuka on her confirmation to the Board of the National Credit Union Administration,” shared Samantha Beeler, President of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions. “Given her experience in the financial services industry, we are confident she will be a strong leader for safety and soundness in the Southeast and beyond. We look forward to working with her to continue supporting and advancing communities across the country.”

Otsuka is the first Asian-American to serve on the NCUA Board. In addition to working for Chairman Sherrod Brown (D-OH) on the Banking Committee, Otsuka served as a staff attorney at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, where she worked for nearly a decade on a broad range of banking issues.
