LSCU Honors Alabama House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter as 2023 Lawmaker of the Year

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) is excited to announce that House Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter (R-Rainsville) has been named the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year in Alabama. He was formally honored this week at the Alabama Advocacy Conference in Montgomery.

“I am aligned with the vision for Alabama’s growth and the crucial contribution our communities play in shaping a successful future,” stated Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter. “I am honored to be named the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year in Alabama and appreciate credit unions who continue to make a positive financial impact to our state.”

The Alabama Advocacy Committee voted to unanimously nominate Speaker Ledbetter as the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year last fall, which was later approved by the LSCU Board of Directors following consideration of members’ contributions to, and support for, credit unions and associated legislative priorities.

During his time in the State House, Speaker Ledbetter has focused on economic growth, expanding broadband, advancing personal freedoms, and improving Alabama’s ports. Outside of politics, Speaker Ledbetter was the Key Accounts Manager with the Sand Mountain Electric Cooperative before retiring to pursue public office.

“Speaker Ledbetter shares the ‘people helping people’ mission of not-for-profit financial cooperatives like credit unions,” shared Michelle Roth, Senior Director of Governmental Affairs for Alabama at LSCU. “We are grateful for his relentless advocacy in bettering Alabama and creating an environment where consumers – before they even graduate high school – have the financial knowledge and tools needed to succeed in today’s world.”

Speaker Ledbetter remains accessible to Alabama’s credit unions, and LSCU appreciates his commitment to serving the state.
