At last week’s League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) Hike the Hill, 60 credit union advocates from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia rallied in D.C. to protect our position on key legislative priorities. With Congress facing a deadline of Monday, September 30, to fund the government, credit unions were successful in preventing onerous legislation like the Credit Card Competition Act from being attached to the funding package. Other priorities included preserving the credit union tax status, opposing efforts to subject credit unions to the Community Reinvestment Act, combatting fraud, and reforming the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
In addition, advocates met with leaders from the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Treasury, and CFPB to promote and protect our regulatory interests.
To get involved in future federal advocacy efforts, be sure to join LSCU next year at America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference, March 2 – 6, 2025, in Washington, D.C. For more information, please contact Grace Colvin.
