Credit unions should be aware that the Wendy’s restaurant chain may be experiencing a card breach. Krebs on Security began hearing from banks that a pattern of fraud was being seen on cards used at Wendy’s. The restaurant chain believes the fraud may be limited to the Midwest  but there is concern it may be all along the east coast.

“Reports indicate that fraudulent charges may have occurred elsewhere after the cards were legitimately used at some of our restaurants. We’ve hired a cybersecurity firm and launched a comprehensive and active investigation that’s underway to try to determine the facts,” Wendy’s spokesperson Bob Bertini told Krebs on Security.

It appears that the fraudulent activity happened late last year. Wendy’s does not know if the breach is contained or for how long it has occurred.
