Alabama and Florida credit union professionals converged in Washington, D.C., this week to take the credit union message to lawmakerss. On Wednesday, credit union leaders and LSCU advocacy staff members managed a packed schedule with a divide and conquer approach as they visited lawmakers on the Hill, including: Marco Rubio, Gary Palmer, Rick Scott, Frances Rooney, Stephanie Murphy, Charlie Crist, Alcee Hastings, Lois Frankel, Kathy Castor, Mo Brooks, Greg Steube, Brian Mast, Ted Deutch, Terri Sewell, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Martha Roby, Ted Yoho, Vern Buchanan, Neal Dunn, Gus Bilirakis, Michael Waltz, Daniel Webster, Al Lawson, Richard Shelby, Mike Rogers, Ross Spano, Bill Posey, Mario Diaz-Balart, Matt Gaetz, Robert Aderholt, Val Demings, Donna Shalala, John Rutherford, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, Bradley Byrne, and Darren Soto.

The previous evening, the LSCU presented awards for 2018 Alabama Federal Lawmaker of the Year to Sen. Doug Jones through the Alabama Credit Union Association and 2018 Florida Federal Lawmaker of the Year to Rep. Al Lawson through the Florida Credit Union Association.

The LSCU presents federal and state Lawmaker of the Year awards each year to show support for those that listen to the issues, co-sponsor legislation, and vote in support of the credit union position.

Jones (D-AL) was elected to the United States Senate in 2017 and his lifelong commitment to service and justice has been evident every day since stepping foot in Washington, D.C.

al lawsonLawson (D-FL) has served U.S. Representative for Florida’s fifth congressional district since 2017. He served in the Florida Legislature for 28 years, rising to the rank of “Dean of the Senate” prior to his election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
