Alabama and Florida lawmakers will each gather tomorrow to kick off their state’s 2018 Legislative Session. Since 2018 is an election year, there is motivation for both states to take care of critical business, such as passing a budget, and avoid needless controversies.

Alabama legislators plan to get in, get out as quickly as they can, and get down to the upcoming campaign season.  Because of the anticipated short tenure, the League is moving quickly to ensure that predatory lending is addressed right away.

The political climate in Florida has been full of distractions so it is expected that there will not be a lot of legislative activity. The focus will most likely be to fulfill their constitutional duties, such as passing a balanced budget.
