Last Thursday, Southeast Georgia credit unions and legislators convened for a Legislative Luncheon in Savannah, Georgia, fostering a crucial dialogue between financial institutions and policymakers. This event provided a platform for credit unions to engage directly with their local lawmakers and discuss key issues impacting their operations.
During the luncheon, credit unions had the opportunity to address several pressing concerns, including the current discussion under the Gold Dome on the calculation of interchange fees. Credit unions highlighted how changes in the payment’s infrastructure could affect their ability to offer competitive services and maintain operational efficiency.
Another critical issue on the agenda was the codification of electronic and remote notary services. By codifying modern notarization practices, credit unions hope to enhance the security, reliability, and accessibility of executing transactions, which are vital for a range of financial services.
Lastly, combating fraud emerged as a topic of concern as credit unions continue to face mounting challenges related to fraudulent activities. The luncheon provided a forum for discussing strategies and legislative measures that could strengthen fraud prevention efforts, protect member data, and improve overall security within the financial sector.
Thank you to CORE Credit Union, Georgia’s Own Credit Union, APCU/Center Parc Credit Union, Marshland Credit Union, and Mercy Federal Credit Union for joining this important discussion. We also appreciate Chairmen Bill Hitchens, Jesse Petrea, and Vice Chairman Lehman Franklin for their participation.
