Credit Unions Make Their Voice Heard at Florida Advocacy Conference

Credit unions from across the state of Florida gathered in Tallahassee this week for the League of Southeastern Credit Unions’ (LSCU) annual Florida Advocacy Conference.

Presenters included Florida CFO Jimmy Patronis, key legislative leaders, and representatives from the Office of Governor Ron DeSantis, the Office of Financial Regulation, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce. LSCU’s advocacy team also presented on a variety of topics, equipping attendees with insight and strategies to advocate both in the state house and in their home districts.

“It’s always heartening to stand side-by-side with so many of our credit unions, helping them advocate for their priorities so they can better serve their members,” said Christopher Hodge, LSCU’s Senior Director of Governmental Affairs for Florida. “Events like this help bring us all together to demonstrate the ‘union’ in the credit union movement.”

Attendees also traveled to the State Capitol to meet with members of the Florida legislature and lobby them on key credit union priorities including public deposits, interchange, and tax issues. They also met with legislators at the Lawmaker Reception held at Doak Campbell Stadium’s Champions Club.

“This has been an incredible event full of insightful speakers and impactful legislative meetings,” said Chuck Adcock, President and CEO at Florida State University Credit Union. “I feel empowered to help make a difference in advocating for more effective ways to serve our members, and I know I’ve got a great team of colleagues across the state and beyond fighting alongside us.”

LSCU is grateful to credit unions who traveled from all over the state to represent our industry and highlight the credit union difference to lawmakers.

We also greatly appreciate the generous support of our system partners who help make events like the Florida Advocacy Conference possible, including TruStage, this year’s title sponsor.
