The League facilitated a meeting this week between Rep. Ander Crenshaw (R-FL) and two credit unions to discuss funding for the Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI) grants. Suncoast Credit Union, based in Tampa, and VyStar Credit Union, based in Jacksonville, talked with Rep. Crenshaw about how more credit unions are applying for the grants, using them to offer new products and services to low income members, and helping to train staff.

Rep. Crenshaw is the chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations subcommittee. The CDFI funds flow through his subcommittee. The League is working with Alabama and Florida credit unions to not only help them become low-income designated, but to assist in applying for grants.

If you have any questions about CDFI certification, contact LSCU VP of Cooperative Initiatives Laura Vann at 866.231.0545 ext. 2181.
