Georgia’s credit unions gathered in Atlanta this week for the League of Southeastern Credit Unions’ (LSCU) annual Georgia Advocacy Conference, a powerful demonstration of the industry’s collective voice.
The conference featured presentations from key state officials, including staff from the Office of Governor Brian P. Kemp, the Office of Attorney General Chris Carr, the Office of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, and the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance. LSCU’s Advocacy Team also provided insightful updates on this year’s legislative session and the critical role grassroots efforts play in securing credit union priorities.
“Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our credit unions, advocating for their priorities so they can better serve members, is truly inspiring,” said Sydney Seral, LSCU’s Vice President of Advocacy. “This conference embodies the ‘union’ in the credit union movement, uniting us to champion a brighter financial future for our communities.”
Attendees actively engaged in the legislative process, visiting the State Capitol to meet with lawmakers and discuss crucial issues like interchange fees, charter modernization, and merchant category codes for payment processing. The Georgia Credit Union Association Legislative Reception, held at the historic Georgia Railroad Freight Depot, further strengthened connections between credit unions and legislators.
“This conference wasn’t just about information. It was about action,” said Stephen Smith, President and CEO of Family First Credit Union in Hapeville, Georgia. “The speakers were insightful, the legislative meetings impactful, and I left feeling empowered to advocate for more effective ways to serve our members. It’s great to see we have a network of colleagues across the state and beyond fighting alongside us.”
LSCU is grateful to the credit unions that travelled from all corners of the Peach State to represent the industry and advocate for the credit union difference. We also sincerely thank our system partners, including this year’s title sponsor, TruStage, for their invaluable support in making this event a resounding success.
