With near record attendance for Alabama and Florida credit unions, as well as for the entire CUNA GAC, festivities kicked off Sunday with some sessions, author Daniel Pink, and the LSCU Welcome Reception. Located the Grand Hyatt, the LSCU host hotel, the LSCU Welcome Reception was standing room only as credit unions got reacquainted, made new friendships, and got prepared for the week.

At the heart of the CUNA GAC is grassroots advocacy. Credit unions will spend the week being immersed in the advocacy issues, as well as a broader view of the entire industry. The first speaker was author Daniel Pink who spoke as part of a kickoff special session from the CUNA Councils. He talked about the sales culture and how the buyer holds more weight now than the seller. He said credit unions fit perfectly into the new sales culture and have opportunities to greatly benefit from it.

On Monday, the conference kicks into high gear with the first general sessions which include CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle unveiling the new #CUDifference campaign. Credit unions are asked to make 15-second videos to upload to social media saying why a credit union is so great and end with “and that’s the CU Difference.” Upload and hashtag CUDifference. You don’t have to be at the CUNA GAC to participate.

Follow the CUNA GAC with the daily “LSCU from the GAC” videos that are brought to you by CUNA Mutual Group. CUNA is also providing a daily video. LSCU Sr. Director of Communications Mike Bridges is hosting both videos. Be sure to follow the conference on the League’s Twitter feed and see pictures on the League’s Facebook page.
