The CUNA Virtual GAC is rapidly approaching! This conference is a great opportunity for credit unions to participate in great breakout sessions as well as hear from some great speakers such as Lt. General (Ret.) H.R. McMaster, former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien.
But one of the most important aspects of the GAC is credit unions’ meetings with lawmakers. These meetings allow credit unions to advocate for important credit union issues directly to lawmakers and their staff. To ensure that our member credit unions are as prepared as possible for the conference and for the subsequent hill meetings, LSCU has a variety of tips and resources at your disposal. Here are a few items to complete before your virtual hill meetings:
- VISIT THE LSCU’S CUNA GAC WEBPAGE – Please visit lscu.coop/2021GAC for all your CUNA GAC resources. Here you will find a schedule of your meetings with lawmakers, hill meeting registration information, talking points on important credit union issues, and other value resources that will make this year’s GAC the best one yet.
- REGISTER FOR THE CUNA GAC WEBINAR – To help prepare you for these meetings, the LSCU advocacy team will host a CUNA GAC webinar on Tuesday, February 23rd at 3:30 pm EST/2:30 pm CT. The webinar will include an overview of the CUNA GAC, instructions for meeting registration, the meeting format, tips for successful lawmaker meetings, and a brief walk-through on the legislative issues we will discuss. To register for the webinar, please click here. If you are unable to attend, we will have a recording of the webinar linked on our CUNA GAC webpage.
- RUN PROJECT ZIP CODE PRIOR TO HILL VISITS – Project Zip Code is a program run by CUNA that allows us to articulate how many credit union members exist in counties, zip codes, and most importantly, legislative districts. These numbers must accurately reflect a true picture of members in the districts, as this data point resonates strongly with lawmakers and leaves a lasting impression of how many unified credit union members reside in their districts. This unity shows elected officials that credit unions are a vocal and critical piece of their constituency. Simply go to pczonline.com to participate.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any member of the advocacy team should you have any questions about Project Zip Code, the upcoming webinar, or CUNA GAC in general. We are looking forward to seeing you and your team at these events and thank you once again for your commitment to LSCU Advocacy.
