The Florida Senate approved a new redistricting map by a 22-18 vote. However, during the process Sen. Matt Gaetz (R-Niceville) called Sen. Jack Latvala (R-Clearwater) a bully for remarks he made about previous attempts at redistricting. Sen. Latvala said that Sen. Gaetz oversaw the map that was challenged in court and owed the state of Florida an apology.
Many senators were not sure that the Florida House would adopt the Senate’s new map. Senate President Andy Gardiner reminded everyone that adopting a new map was just the first step in the process and that they still had a long way to go. The House is expected to look at the new map on Monday.
