adminYesterday, the Alabama Advocacy Conference kicked off in Montgomery, AL, providing valuable information on regulatory issues to attendees. The event opened with a welcome and League update from LSCU President/CEO Patrick LaPine, outlining important initiatives the LSCU is undertaking on behalf of member credit unions.
At the luncheon, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group, Blake Westbrook, political affairs manager for the LSCU, presented PAC fundraising awards to recognize outstanding PAC performance by credit unions and chapters.
The President’s Award was presented to Five Star CU for raising the most money overall with $19,740. The Chairman’s Award for credit unions with under $50 million in assets from ACULAC went to Azalea City CU, which exceeded its goal by 534 percent. The FEDPAC equivalent of that award went to Alabama River CU with 136 percent.
The Chairman’s Award for $50 million to $100 million in assets’ FEDPAC award went to Riverdale CU with 148 percent. The ACULAC award went to Riverdale CU with 1,760 percent. The Chairman’s Award for $100 million to $500 million in assets went to ACULAC with Five Star CU with 996 percent, and the FEDPAC award went to Five Star CU with 628 percent. The Chairman’s Award for more than $500 million in assets with the ACULAC went to Alabama CU with 109 percent, and the FEDPAC went to Family Security CU with 334 percent.
The Chapter Award was presented to the LSCU’s Birmingham Chapter of Credit Unions for its fundraising efforts.
The afternoon session of the conference began with Steve Flowers, Alabama political journalist and commentator, who shared anecdotes about Alabama politics, and potential impacts on future political races. Mark Colson, senior VP of governmental affairs and chief of staff with the Business Council of Alabama, discussed the 2017 Legislative Session and issues the business community sees as the most pressing matters facing Alabama.
Closing the meeting, Sarah Moore, ACUA Administrator, updated Alabama credit unions on important regulatory issues and concerns. The conference continues today in Montgomery, AL.
