LSCU, Credit Unions Prioritize Interchange Throughout August Recess

As the August Recess comes to a close and members prepare to return to DC, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) is grateful to credit unions who engaged with elected officials during the recent district work period. With lawmakers returning to Washington, we know one thing to be true – our fight with interchange legislation will continue.

While merchants will be flooding the halls of Capitol Hill urging passage of the Credit Card Competition Act, LSCU remains confident, thanks to the direct advocacy of credit unions, that our opposition will remain top of mind. With credit unions engaging elected officials across our tri-state footprint, explaining the negative impacts of the original Durbin Amendment, painting the full picture of fraud, and educating offices on how the payments system actually works, credit union perspectives have been included in office responses to constituents and other concerned groups.

Our Action Alert can be linked to  here, and we will likely relaunch our grassroots engagement as the amendment starts moving once again. While credit unions sent more than 20,000 messages to Congress opposing the Credit Card Competition Act when it was considered as an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, we know any bill that is moving will be targeted as a method of transportation for this amendment.

We thank you again for your engagement and support of our advocacy efforts.
