LSCU Honors Florida State Representative Adam Botana as 2023 Lawmaker of the Year

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) is excited to announce that State Representative Adam Botana (HD 80) has been named the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year in Florida. He was formally honored last week at the Florida Advocacy Conference in Tallahassee.

“I am deeply humbled to be named State Lawmaker of the Year by LSCU,” expressed Botana. “As a small business owner, I know firsthand the immeasurable value that credit unions provide to their members and communities. I am proud to stand up for credit unions and fight for legislation to help them help others.”

The Florida Advocacy Committee voted to nominate Representative Botana as the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year last fall, which was later approved by the LSCU Board of Directors following consideration of members’ contributions to, and support for, credit unions and associated legislative priorities.

“Representative Botana has been a stalwart ally of credit unions and their causes,” said Patrick La Pine, CEO of LSCU & Affiliates. “We are grateful for his partnership on a number of high-profile issues to help credit unions and the communities they serve throughout Florida, and we look forward to working with him in 2024 and beyond.”

Representative Botana was elected to the Florida House in 2020. His leadership roles include Chief Floor Whip and the Vice Chair of the Select Committee on Hurricane Resiliency and Recovery. He also serves on numerous House committees and subcommittees, including the Insurance and Banking Subcommittee, the Infrastructure Committee, the Judiciary Committee and the Rules Committee, among others. He is also the sponsor of HB 611, which is designed to allow Florida credit unions to accept public deposits.

“Representative Botana supports the credit union mission and tirelessly champions our cause,” shared Christopher Hodge, LSCU’s Senior Director of Governmental Affairs for Florida. “Whether it’s advocating for public deposits or addressing other crucial issues for credit unions and their members, we feel privileged to work alongside Representative Botana in serving our members.”

State Representative Botana remains accessible to Florida’s credit unions, and LSCU appreciates his ongoing commitment to serving the state.
