LSCU Wraps up Successful 2022 CUNA GAC

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) recently wrapped up an effective and successful 2022 CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference (GAC).

Each year, thousands of credit union professionals from across the country gather in Washington, D.C. to advocate for the financial well-being of the more than 130 million credit union members nationwide at this one-of-a-kind conference.

This year, despite the crisis in Ukraine, the trucker convoy, the COVID-19 pandemic, the State of the Union, and other party politics at play, nearly 200 credit union advocates from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia attended CUNA GAC and represented credit unions from across the Southeast.

LSCU participated in 38 highly effective meetings with U.S. Senators and Representatives or their staff. These meetings resulted in the support of LSCU-supported legislation and priorities, a newfound or renewed appreciation for the work of credit unions, and deeper ties between Members of Congress and credit unions in Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.

In addition, LSCU was proud to recognize our three 2021 Federal Lawmakers of the Year at last Tuesday night’s reception. Congressmen Jerry Carl (AL-01), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), and Buddy Carter (GA-01) were honored for their continued commitment to working with and supporting credit unions. Each member attended the reception and spoke about their unparalleled experiences in working with our respective credit unions.

LSCU was also excited to host meetings with all three National Credit Union Administration Board Members: Chairman Todd Harper, Vice Chairman Kyle Hauptman, and Member Rodney Hood, in which LSCU priorities including FinTech, cryptocurrency, exams, regulatory relief, succession planning, and more were discussed at length.

Last week’s conference reaffirmed the importance of continued advocacy, and LSCU is grateful to everyone who made time to join us at this year’s national conference, as well as our three state advocacy conferences.

As we continue to navigate the remainder of this Election Cycle, the LSCU Advocacy Team encourages you to participate in candidate meetings and other advocacy events happening near you.
