The traditional opening of the CUNA GAC includes a drum and fife corp, a color guard, and a credit union  representative from each state walking in with the state flag. CUNA President/CEO Jim Nussle also challenged credit unions to tell the #CUDifference with 15-second videos through social media. It’s not just for CUNA GAC attendees, but for all credit unions to flood social media with a credit union story and to end it with “and that’s the credit union difference.”

Alabama CU CEO Steve Swofford and Mobile Educators CU CEO Tina Williams walked in the Alabama flag that also included a “Roll Tide” flag. LSCU President/CEO Patrick La Pine and Florida West Coast CU CEO Mary Wood walked in the Florida flag. Monday at the CUNA GAC included a side meeting between the CFPB and four credit unions. Alabama CU, America’s First FCU, First Commerce CU, and USF FCU spent time talking issues with the CFPB and reiterating that a one-size fits all approach to regulations does not work.

The first educational opportunities took place with the Field of Membership Modernization session being standing room only. Credit unions learned more about the NCUA’s new proposed rule. The CUNA bylaw modernization session also had great interaction from credit unions.

Tuesday features former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel talking about cybersecurity on the nations electrical grid. The League will present lawmaker of the year awards to Reps. Mo Brooks (R-AL) and Bill Posey (R-FL) at a reception Tuesday evening.
