At this year’s Alabama Advocacy Conference, awards were presented to credit unions who raised the most in their asset division to contribute to state and federal PAC funds in 2019. The LSCU is grateful to those who work to raise money to support candidates who will be cognizant of credit union issues.
“State and federal legislators make decisions every day that could potentially affect the way credit unions do business,” said Blake Westbrook, LSCU director of political action and grassroots. “Other financial institutions, with interests very different from credit unions, actively lobby, campaign and contribute to candidates favorable to their cause. Through LSCU PACs, credit unions can ensure their industry remains strong by supporting candidates for office that share the credit union vision.”
The LSCU also named the 2019 Lawmaker of the Year, Sen. Shay Shelnutt, a strong supporter of credit unions during his time in the Alabama Senate. He is the chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee.
