Independent study recently confirmed what many of us have known for years.  For the third year in a row, an independent study by Ballast Research, formerly National Journal Research, rated the CUNA-League system as the most influential financial services trade organization at the federal level.  The study found we’re the best and most effective advocacy association of ALL financial services in the study (including all bank and credit union groups) AND one of the most effective of ALL advocacy organizations on Capitol Hill over all advocacy categories and industries.  Click here for more information on the findings.

The research findings for this study are based on two key measurements including: Long-term reputation, which is calculated by a combination of scores in four distinct measures: respect, consideration, influence and sharing, and advocacy tools/tactics to include media, lobbying, and research. More than 1,200 policymakers were surveyed, and more than 400 senior policymakers were interviewed.

One key takeaway is that policymakers see the CUNA/League System as setting high standards for the financial services industry and pushing industry practices that are beneficial to consumers. They also have greater respect for the role CUNA and the Leagues play in policymaking than other trade associations.

Policymakers are taking note of what we work for on Capitol Hill as well as in Montgomery and Tallahassee.  Our boots on the ground approach – whether in DC, state capitols or districts – makes a difference in educating lawmakers and influencing policy, and this affirmation of the importance of our partnership with CUNA gives new impetus to our work.  The three-tiered system (credit unions, leagues, and CUNA) plays to defending and advancing our industry has never been more important.

The LSCU looks forward to continuing to be your trusted advocate as we travel to Washington, D.C., Sept. 12-13 for our annual fall Hike the Hill.  But we can’t do it alone, and there is still time to sign up for HTH.  I hope to see you there!
