President Trump recently announced his nominations for the NCUA Board, selecting Republican Rodney Hood and Democrat Todd Harper.  The NCUA has not had full three-member board in place since April 2016 when Debbie Matz left.  If confirmed, Hood would replace current Board member Rick Metsger with a term expiring in August 2023.  Harper will fill the long vacant Matz seat, which expires in April 2021.

Hood is no stranger to credit unions, serving on the NCUA Board from 2005-2010, Todd Harper was director of public and congressional affairs for the agency from 2011-2017.  Todd worked closely with our federal contract lobbyist John McKechnie when he was at the agency and took over his role when John left.

Both Hood and Harper are slated for a confirmation hearing before the Senate Banking Committee on Feb. 14.  The LSCU advocacy team is expected to be at the hearing.  Following the hearing, the Committee will have to vote to send the nominees to the full Senate for a final confirmation vote. We expect both appointees to be confirmed and seated by the Spring.

NCUA Chairman Mark McWaters and Board Member Rick Metzger have enjoyed an excellent working relationship, putting forth many proposals to streamline the agency while also promoting regulatory reform and examiner accountability.  We hope and expect the reconstituted NCUA Board will continue along the same path.
