Thursday’s line up of presenters was off the charts and started with a League update on Hurricane Michael relief and the midterm election results from President/CEO Patrick La Pine. Participants heard next from NCUA Director for Region 4, Keith Morton. As regional director, Morton is responsible for the oversight of the chartering program for federal credit unions and the examination and supervision programs for all federally insured credit unions in 14 states.

Morton provided information on credit union trends, exam modernization, upcoming regulatory reform, and upcoming supervisory priorities for 2019, which are expected to include cybersecurity, BSA, internal controls, interest rates, liquidity risk, compliance, and auto and commercial lending.

After a short break, Chris Otey, chief revenue officer at CU 2.0 and the chairman of the board at South Bay Credit Union in southern California, provided an interactive session on artificial intelligence and the changing digital landscape of credit unions.

The Advocacy luncheon followed with a packed audience hearing an uplifting message from Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL).

The afternoon rounded out with breakout sessions and roundtables that focused on leadership, cybersecurity and other issues facing today’s credit unions.  After a long day of learning, particiapants relaxed at a beautiful reception sponsored by EVP with scotch and cigars.
