Successful first week of Virtual Hike the Hill concludes, more to come

Credit union advocates from all three states within the LSCU footprint met with 23 members of Congress and the U.S. Senate during the first week of our Virtual Hike the Hill. We brought to their attention the assistance that credit unions have been providing to their members during the pandemic and the thoughtful and personalized initiatives that have made a lasting impact in their districts (like the Credit Unions Care Challenge).

We urged them to support the Paycheck Protection Program Small Business Forgiveness Act (H.R. 7777 and S. 4117) and any other legislation involving PPP forgiveness. We also informed them of our legislative priorities, including merchant data breach liability and preserving the credit union tax exemption. These meetings with lawmakers remain the most visual and significant representation of credit union grassroots strength, and the advocacy team believes that we can still advance the credit union mission, even from afar.

Virtual Hike the Hill talking points, recorded webinar tutorial, and all meeting dates and times are located on our Virtual Hike the Hill webpage. We are constantly uploading new meetings for our second week of Hike the Hill as they are scheduled to accommodate the fluctuating congressional schedule. This week alone, five new meetings have been scheduled in Florida, one in Alabama and another in Georgia … so if you do not see a meeting in your region, please check back often as it is coming soon!
