When the legislative session ends, the in-district engagement season begins! The Georgia legislative session adjourned Wednesday, March 29, 2023, and, after a brief period of catching our breath, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) Advocacy Team shifted gears into grassroots advocacy and in-district lawmaker education.
Advocacy, hosted Senator Jason Esteves at Delta Community Credit Union in Atlanta, Georgia, for a great discussion on the credit union difference, a session debrief, and a conversation around legislative priorities such as interchange and charter modernization. Representatives from LGE Community Credit Union and Georgia’s Own Credit Union were also in attendance.
Shortly after, Senator Kay Kirkpatrick joined LSCU, Credit Union of Georgia, Georgia’s Own Credit Union, and Georgia United Credit Union for a branch tour of Delta Community Credit Union’s new Woodstock branch. After learning about Interactive Teller Machines and touring the branch, the group enjoyed a great conversation about credit union priorities, such as maintaining the current interchange system, which ensures that consumers have safe, reliable transactions, providing Georgians access remote online notarization, and the annual process of updating the Georgia Credit Union Act for state-chartered credit unions.
While the Georgia legislature is part-time, legislators serve their constituents throughout the year, and the LSCU Advocacy Team is so grateful for the opportunity to engage Senators Esteves and Kirkpatrick and LSCU member credit unions over the busy summer months.
Please stay tuned for other local engagements, and know that the LSCU Advocacy Team is here to serve.
