Both the House and Senate are in session this week.  President Trump and Congressional leaders are continuing negotiations on an agreement to fund the federal government through Sept. 30, the end of fiscal year 2019.  The current Continuing Resolution funds the federal government through Feb. 15.

The House will also consider H. J. Res. 37, directing the “removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities in the Republic of Yemen that have not been authorized by Congress.”  In addition, the Senate may also consider S. 47, the Natural Resources Management Act.

In committee this week on Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee will convene a hearing titled “Homeless in America: Examining the Crisis and Solutions to End Homelessness.”  Also on Wednesday, the House Financial Services Committee Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions Subcommittee will hold a hearing, “Challenges and Solutions: Access to Banking Services for Cannabis-Related Businesses.”  Rachel Pross, chief risk officer at MAPS Credit Union, has been invited to testify on behalf of CUNA.

On Thursday, credit unions will want to be alert for the Senate Banking Committee full committee hearing: Bimal Patel to be an assistant secretary of the Treasury; Todd M. Harper to be a Member of the National Credit Union Administration Board; Rodney Hood to be a Member of the National Credit Union Administration Board; and Dr. Mark Anthony Calabria to be director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.”

Also on Thursday, the House Financial Services Committee Housing, Community Development, and Insurance Subcommittee will convene a hearing: “The Affordable Housing Crisis in Rural America: Assessing the Federal Response.”
