Both the House and Senate are in session this week.  The Congress continues to negotiate with the president on an agreement to fund the federal government through the end of fiscal year 2019. At midnight on Dec. 21, 2018, certain federal government agencies and functions shut down as Congressional lawmakers and the president could not come to an agreement over funding for border security.  As a result, funding for roughly 25 percent of the federal government is halted.  Seventy-five percent of the federal government has already been funded through the end of fiscal year 2019 (Sept. 30, 2019). Functions and personnel deemed “nonessential” are closed until a funding agreement is reached.

In addition, the Senate will resume consideration of S. 1, to make improvements to certain defense and security assistance provisions and to authorize the appropriation of funds to Israel, to reauthorize the United States-Jordan Defense Cooperation Act of 2015.
