Common Cents Podcast: Credit Union Lobbying in Washington DC and 2022 Elections

Commons Cents, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) Podcast, has just released another episode. In this month’s edition, LSCU Podcast Host Mike Miller sits down with John McKechnie, Senior Partner at Total Spectrum, and Grace Newcombe, Senior Director of Federal Advocacy and Communications at LSCU. This episode is focused on credit union policies at the federal level, as Mike, John, and Grace talk about issues that credit unions are facing in Washington D.C. right now, how the primary elections are going for credit union supported/endorsed candidates, what the 2022 General Election could look like, and even who could be running for president in 2024.

John represents a wide variety of credit union and financial services providers on Capitol Hill. The LSCU Advocacy Team works with John a whole lot in Washington. John has been in the credit union industry for a long time. His career in the credit union industry began in 1987 as the Director of Political Action with the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). It culminated in a four-year stint as CUNA’s Chief Federal Lobbyist, heading up federal legislative and political advocacy.

John also served as Director of Public and Congressional Affairs for the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), worked as a Congressional Aide in the US House of Representatives, ran several political campaigns, is a frequent speaker at financial institution conferences and planning sessions, and also contributes to dozens of national publications.

Grace joined LSCU in 2021 to focus on federal advocacy and communications. She comes from the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office where she served as Director of Communications and Governmental Relations. Grace graduated from the University of South Alabama with a degree in Political Science and English, where she also served as President of the Student Body.
