Common Cents Podcast: Rep. Hilton Talks the Importance of Banking Locally Amid Recent Bank Runs

The latest episode of Commons Cents Podcast has just been released. In this edition of Common Cents, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) Podcast, Host Mike Miller sits down with Sydney Seral, the Vice President of Advocacy for LSCU, and Georgia State Representative Scott Hilton (R-District 48) to discuss the 2023 Georgia Legislative Session, including legislation impacting the financial services industry.

The trio also discuss recent bank failures, dangerous interchange legislation proposed in Georgia, and why it is important for credit unions to get involved in the political and legislative process.

Sydney manages LSCU’s advocacy efforts, which includes state legislation, grassroots efforts, and political action committees (PACs). She is also the lead lobbyist for the state of Georgia.

Rep. Hilton is a Republican State Lawmaker who represents Georgians in the Peachtree Corners area, north of Atlanta. He has worked with the small business community in Georgia for more than 15 years. He currently serves as Senior Vice-President of Commercial Banking at SouthState Bank and previously led the Georgians First Commission as Executive Director with a focus on eliminating burdensome red tape for the benefit of Georgia’s small businesses.
