This week, the LSCU is recognizing outstanding individuals and credit unions for their work in 2019. Among them are Professional of the Year awards, Volunteer of the Year awards and Young Professional of the Year award.
Professional of the Year
Professionals honored with the Professional of the Year award represent the all-around best credit unions have to offer. The professional contributions of these individuals advance the credit union movement in their state and the nation.
“At the League, we are so proud of the outstanding talent housed in all of our member credit unions,” said Jared Ross, president of LSCU. “Credit unions in Alabama, Florida and Georgia – as well as nationally – employ intelligent and sensitive professionals dedicated to helping their community members afford life. These awards give us a way to highlight and thank those who truly went above and beyond in their service.”
This year, the League honored three credit unions professionals; one from each state in its footprint. The League announced each of these winners via its social media Oct. 14.
Congratulations to all the winners of the 2019 Professional of the Year awards:
- Henry Armstrong, President and CEO of Auburn University Credit Union in Auburn, Ala.
- Jan Page, President and CEO of Community South Credit Union in Chipley, Fla.
- Stacy Tallent, President and CEO of Health Center Credit Union in Augusta, Ga.
Volunteer of the Year
The LSCU also recognized three outstanding credit union volunteers with its Volunteer of the Year awards.
Those honored with the Volunteer of the Year award represent the all-around in offering free service to credit unions. These volunteers go above and beyond to contribute time, effort and talent in advancing the credit union movement.
“Volunteers are crucial to each of our member credit unions and to the industry overall,” said Jared Ross, president of LSCU. “Without these dedicated individuals, credit unions couldn’t have the incredible impact they continuously have on their members. These awards give us a way to thank and award these selfless volunteers for all they do.”

Young Professional of the Year
The LSCU also recognized Laura Massimino with Pen Air Federal Credit Union in Pensacola, Fla. As the 2019 Young Professional of the Year.
The Young Professional of the Year award honors credit union employees age 40 or under who show passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the credit union movement.
Massimino has been dedicated to the industry and the involvement of young professionals for the past several years – and she’s been impactful in that regard.
As Pen Air Federal Credit Union’s data landscape has changed and grown over the past few years, Massimino has been a key leader in making sure data remains reliable and clean across all sources. She’s also served as the president of the Northwest Florida Young Professional Group Chapter, as the Pen Air NextUp representative for Members Development Company, as the chair of Pen Air’s internal Innovation Council and the LSCU YPG Coordinating Council.
Massimino has been recognized for her outstanding achievements before. In 2019 alone, she was selected to crash the GAC and was named one of Pensacola’s Rising Stars.
“Our member credit unions house a bevy of young talent working to bring the movement into the future,” said Jared Ross, president of LSCU. “Laura represents the best of the best among our fresh talent. She truly lives the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and we’re proud to honor her with this prestigious award.”
