Alex Lawley with America’s First Federal Credit Union in Birmingham, AL, was named the recipient of Hands on Birmingham Volunteer of the Year Award at a recent United Way of Central Alabama luncheon to honor the organization’s volunteers.
Ignite is a Hands On Birmingham event committed to recognizing and celebrating outstanding volunteer service with support on an ongoing basis. While their actions go largely unrecognized, volunteers are truly the “heart of the community.” Ignite was created to celebrate the grassroots level Volunteer, the Leaders Making a Difference in our community that can be seen everywhere.

Johnson named new director of business services and commercial lending at Jax FCU
Davis Johnston has been appointed to lead the new division as director of business services and commercial lending at Jax Federal Credit Union in Jacksonville, FL. He brings more than 30 years of experience in the credit union and lending industry. Previously, he led Community First Credit Union’s commercial lending division. He has also held leadership roles with 121 Financial Credit Union and Telco Credit Union and served as a regulator for the State of Florida from 1989 to 1992.
“Small businesses are vital to the economic and civic identity of our community,” he said. “Our goal is to connect the credit union and its business lending solutions with businesses throughout Northeast Florida, with the ultimate goal of supporting a strong and diverse economy in our region.”
Lee leads successful BSA Workshop at Legacy FCU in Birmingham
Mike Lee, director of regulatory advocacy for the LSCU, led a Bank Secrecy Act Workshop on April 9 at Legacy Federal Credit Union in Birmingham, AL. The well-attended event provided an overview of credit union specific BSA regulations and assisted credit unions in remaining compliant with BSA training requirements.
A second Bank Secrecy Act Workshop was led by Bill Berg, vice president of compliance training and information, and held April 11 in Jacksonville, FL.
