Five Star Credit Union passed a major milestone in April by welcoming its 40,000th member. Thirteen-year-old Kaleb Palmer walked in to the Camilla, GA, branch to open a savings account and left with $400. Five Star presented Kaleb with $400 for being the 40,000th member. It was a way to share the milestone with the membership.
“We wanted to celebrate our milestone in a truly credit union way,” said Mike Bridges, vice president of marketing and communications, “That meant giving back to our lucky milestone member. We’re happy that Kaleb opened a savings account, but we are excited that we could get his savings account off to a good start with a solid first deposit.”
Five Star has seen more consumers choose the credit union over the past two years. The membership at Five Star grew from 30,000 members to 40,000 members in just two years.
Pen Air presents check for Early Brain Development to Blue Wahoos, Studer Community Institute
On April 9, Pen Air Federal Credit Union presented a check in the amount of $2,577.80 to the Blue Wahoos and Studer Community Institute (SCI) as part of its annual giving partnership to SCI’s Early Brain Development initiative at the Blue Wahoos Stadium.
“SCI works to give parents the tools, advice and support they need to fill the most important job they’ll ever have — that of a child’s first teacher. We need every parent to have these tools, because the future of our children — and the future of our community — depends on it, said Shannon Nickinson, director of Early Learning. “Because when you build a brain, you build a life and you build a community.”
Research conducted by the SCI shows that the first three years are a critical window for building healthy brains that are ready to learn. Data tells us about one-third of the children who start school each year don’t have the skills they need to succeed in school.
“Helping to build an educational foundation for children is our responsibility as a strong community partner,” said Stu Ramsey, president and CEO of Pen Air. “In the spirit of Communerosity, we are thrilled to make an investment today in our children and their future success in school and life because we understand the importance of early learning.”
Each time the official Blue Wahoos Platinum Mastercard® Credit Card is used, a donation is generated to Early Brain Development. The current donation comes from funds that have been collected from the last 12 months. To date, $6,594.36 has been given through this partnership. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos are the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in the Panhandle of Northwest Florida.
IBMSECU gives community opportunity to apply and win scholarship
IBM Southeast Employees’ Credit Union’s Southeast Credit Union Foundation, strongly believes in investing in the success of young minds. The SECU Scholarship Program is just one way they give back to the community. The student scholarships that will be awarded will give students the assistance and motivation to further their education.
The mission of the Southeast Credit Union Foundation is to improve the lives of children and families in the communities we serve. All proceeds raised from their annual School Ready Days, Virtual 5k and Jingle Bells in the Branches and other fundraising events will be donated directly to the foundation and used to support their causes like local scholarship awards and school supplies for children in need.
The 2018 SECU Scholarship Program Application deadline is Monday, April 30. Graduating high school seniors or currently enrolled college or trade school students can apply by writing an essay or creating a video that describes your career goals.
Stephen Johnson, director of the Southeast Credit Union Foundation stated, “We believe education is the key to a bright future. We want to make college accessible to those who may not be able to afford it. Giving back to the communities we are in is so important to us. We can’t wait award these scholarships to deserving students.”
