Calhoun Liberty donates bleachers to Sam Atkin’s Park after Hurricane Michael
bleacher donationWhen the eye of Hurricane Michael passed over Calhoun County, FL, the bleachers at Sam Atkin’s Park were destroyed.  Knowing the importance of the park to residents and community surrounding the county, Calhoun Liberty Employees Credit Union has donated eight sets of bleachers, valued at $50,000, to replace the ones damaged for the four main ball fields at the park.

The Department of Corrections assisted the county using two local inmate crews to assemble and install the bleachers.  This donation is part of the Credit Union’s on-going commitment to make a difference in the communities it serves. Among the many working to make the installation possible were: Thomas Flowers, CEO of CLECU; Judy Franklin, board member CLECU; Ralph Whitfield, board member CLECU; Gene Bailey, chairman of the Calhoun County Board of County Commissioners; Tim Jenks, Calhoun County Maintenance superintendent; Chelsea Ranew, Calhoun County grants and projects coordinator; Paul Barber, Department of Corrections; James Warner, Department of Corrections; Lt, Daryl O’Bryan, Department of Corrections; and Maj. Motley, Department of Corrections.

Family Savings CU loses founding employee and long-standing board member
Members and employees of Family Savings Credit Union in Alabama mourn the passing of one of the credit union’s first employees and avid advocates for the credit union movement. Audra Burger, who died on April 10, 2019, began her career with Family Savings in 1954 as one of its first three full-time employees. She held many jobs at FSCU such as teller, loan officer, member service representative, and new account representative, but was very familiar with all the jobs at the credit union. She knew every member by name and could even tell a little history about each one.

In January of 1988, Mrs. Burger retired after 32 years as an employee. That same year, she was elected to serve on the FSCU Board of Directors and advocated for the credit union movement for more than 30 years, serving as treasurer for most of her board service until her death. She will be missed throughout the industry.
