Florence Federal Credit Union in Florence, Alabama, recently donated $4,700 to Hatton Elementary School, covering half of the school supplies needed for all 235 students. Located in the Brick Hatton region of Leighton, Alabama, the public school serves grades PreK-6 in the Colbert County School District. Roughly 80% of the students live below the poverty line.
“[Florence Federal’s] support will significantly impact our efforts to provide essential school supplies and resources to our students from low-income families,” said Tracie West, Hatton Elementary School Principal. “Thanks to [their] kindness, we can ensure that every child has the materials they need to succeed in their education. We are excited to see the positive changes the donation will bring.”
The credit union industry shares a guiding philosophy of “people helping people.” This contribution underscores Florence Federal’s commitment to the philosophy by extending financial support beyond banking to make a meaningful impact on local youth. Despite having only 18 employees, Florence Federal Credit Union continues to make a significant impact on the community. In addition to this donation, the credit union has taught free Financial Literacy classes to seven schools across Colbert and Lauderdale counties and provided free seminars to local manufacturing plants.
