JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Nearly 100 teenagers adopted new identities and learned financial management skills at the recent Mad City Money Simulation™. The free annual event was hosted by 20 local credit unions that partnered through the Northeast Florida Chapter of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU).

Judy Walz, president of the Northeast Florida Chapter of LSCU and senior vice president of marketing and planning at VyStar Credit Union, said the financial workshop provided real-life scenarios to teach teenagers how to identify wants versus needs, budget household income and balance a checkbook.

“Mad City Money brought teenagers the opportunity to foster their financial futures in a fun, safe environment,” Walz said. “The interactive city was filled with mock merchants, played by credit union staff, including a pushy car salesperson and a commission-based relator who gave teens a true taste of the real world.”

In addition to the educational workshop, the event also included free pizza and drawings for giveaways. For more information, visit mynechapter.org.
