Bridging the Digital Divide: How to Meet the Needs of Gen Z and Millennials

The new generations of consumers, Generation Z (Gen Z) and millennials, have unique and unprecedented digital needs that most credit unions have difficulty meeting. Over the past decade, neobanks (banking apps) have been able to deploy the technology necessary to capture this audience. In this session, we’ll pull back the curtain about what makes neobanks successful and talk about some strategies and technologies your credit union can use to capture the next generation of members.

Gautam Ajjarapu is the Founder and CEO of Glide, a fintech startup backed by some of the most prominent investors in the country. By specializing in innovative financial solutions, Gautam aims to bridge the gap between credit unions and the modern needs of members. Previously, Gautam and his co-founders have built and launched products for over one million Gen Z and millennial users around the world. Prior to starting Glide, Gautam worked in the fintech and consumer software spaces at companies like Google and Stripe. Now, Gautam is bringing his modern and unique perspective to make credit unions a competitive financial option for the next generation of members. 10:30 am – 11:15 am – Succession Planning: It’s Not Optional
There has never been a more critical time to be doing succession planning – both for your boards and your management teams. We are in the middle of what is being called a Silver Tsunami with over 10,000 people a day reaching retirement age. Are you ready for what this means for your credit union? In this session, we will talk about how the high rate of retirements happening now and in the foreseeable future are affecting credit unions across the country. Yvonne will also give you some strategies to consider to help your credit union to not only survive, but thrive during this trying time. A lot of it has to do with how you are developing and communicating with your employees and board members, and how prepared you are for turnover. She will talk about the succession planning steps for both boards and management and how this can be a game-changer for your credit union.

11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Current Trends: What’s Happening in the Credit Union Board World?

Join us for a conversation about what’s happening in the credit union board world. The facilitator will have a list of current topics, but you will also be given a chance to talk about what’s on your mind and ask the facilitator and your peers what they are doing at their credit unions. This will be a very lively and interactive session.

State of the Credit Union Industry
Thursday, June 13 | 11:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

This session will explore the current state of the credit union industry from a financial perspective. On a macro level, it will review the consolidated credit union industry’s balance sheet and look at recent trends in loan growth, investment allocation and shifts in deposit mix. Recent and historical operating and income ratios will also be discussed to identify areas of competitive strength and weakness. It will also explore the industry’s capital utilization, liquidity, and margin trends.

Frank Santucci is a Managing Director at Stifel, where he leads the company’s credit union practice. He is an authority on interest rate risk and liquidity risk management in the institutional fixed income market. Frank has worked with hundreds of credit unions and other financial institutions nationwide in a career spanning more than 35 years, and he is the principal author of the credit union-focused ALM model used by Stifel. The user-friendly ALM analysis has become instrumental for many institutions in the active management of their balance sheet.
