In response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation (SECUF) quickly mobilized to deliver essential support to credit union employees and volunteers impacted by these devastating storms. As the philanthropic arm of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU), SECUF is steadfast in its mission to assist the credit union community during crises, demonstrating the resilience and cooperative spirit that define credit unions across Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
In the immediate aftermath, SECUF provided Disaster Relief Grants to cover critical needs such as food, water, clothing, temporary shelter, and transportation. These grants helped stabilize affected employees and volunteers, enabling them to return to work with peace of mind. To further assist recovery, SECUF distributed 114 generators across Florida and Georgia, ensuring access to reliable power. To date, SECUF has awarded over $127,950 in Disaster Relief Grants, a testament to the immediate support provided. However, this figure only represents the beginning, as SECUF anticipates the need for further resources to address long-term recovery.
“Our credit union community has always been defined by a commitment to care for and support one another,” shared Bobbi Grady, SECUF Executive Director. “Through these relief efforts, SECUF is honored to stand with our employees and volunteers as they rebuild and recover. We’re grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose support has been essential in making this possible.”

SECUF recently launched the Disaster Recovery Community Impact Matching Program, offering up to $2,500 in matching funds for credit unions leading community recovery initiatives. This program amplifies the vital role credit unions play in their communities, reinforcing SECUF’s commitment to resilience and collective recovery.
The Foundation is deeply grateful for the support received from donors, which reflects the cooperative spirit and strength of the credit union community. As requests for assistance continue, the recovery journey is far from over. Ongoing support is crucial to sustain programs like the Disaster Recovery Grants and to ensure that relief reaches those who need it most.
