The LSCU this week announced its support of the NCUF’s CUAid disaster relief system, donating $2,500 to help Louisianans in need. Now the Birmingham Chapter of Credit Unions has announced it will donate $1,500 to the Louisiana relief efforts, said Derrick E. Ragland Jr., president of the chapter and president/CEO of APCO Employees Credit Unions in Birmingham, AL.
When needs are greatest, credit unions are among the first to step up to lend aid. The LSCU encourages other credit unions or chapters to make donations of any amount. As donations are posted through CUAid.coop, the National Credit Union Foundation is coordinating with the Louisiana Credit Union Foundation in the disaster area to distribute money efficiently to affected credit union employees. Unlike some organizations, donors can be sure 100 percent of the donations through CUAid goes to credit union disaster relief. In the event that all donations are not used for Louisiana flooding relief, the National Credit Union Foundation will transfer unused funds to its “General Disaster Relief fund” for future disaster relief efforts.
