Common Cents Podcast is Back

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) is excited to have Georgia State Senator Sonya Halpern (D-Atlanta) on Common Cents this month. Hear about the importance of credit unions in Georgia, legislation currently being considered and how it may affect financial institutions, and much more during this month’s podcast.

Senator Halpern assumed office on January 11, 2021. She won in a special primary runoff election on December 1, 2020, with more than 80% of the votes.

Senator Halpern was born in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and an MBA from the University of Hartford. She has an extensive career, including working for ESPN, Public Broadcasting Atlanta, and various non-profit organizations.

The Senator is a member of the following committees:

  • Banking and Financial Institutions Committee
  • Education and Youth Committee
  • Senate Health and Human Services Committee
  • State Institutions and Property Committee

LSCU Host Mike Miller is the Communications Manager for the League. Mike, a former TV News Anchor who has worked for stations in Alabama, Georgia, and Texas, looks forward to sharing stories from credit unions, lawmakers, and organizations that all further the credit union mission of “people helping people.”
