Donations are Still Being Accepted for Those Impacted by Hurricane Ian

The credit union community in Florida is still dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Ian. As of Thursday, there are approximately 20 branches still closed, a major improvement from the more than 70 branches closed immediately after the storm.

Over the last week, the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates (LSCU & Affiliates) has made multiple trips down to Central Florida with trailers and trucks full of immediate recovery supplies for our credit unions and others affected.

However, many are still in need of supplies while they continue to assess damages and recover from the severe weather. Donations can be made to the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation or to CU Aid to assist credit unions, their teams, and their families working to get through this hardship.

“There’s a lot of long-term rebuilding that needs to happen for credit unions, for the credit union community. So, we need to see donations,” said Samantha Beeler, President of LSCU. “We appreciate the partnership with the National Credit Union Foundation tremendously, but anyone in the credit union world considering donating, now is the time.”

In addition, the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation has received more than 250 grant applications and is working tirelessly to ensure that critical needs are met and resources are provided in a timely manner.

In addition to monetary donations, the League is collecting basic household items, generators, mobile branches, ATMs, hot spots, tarps, and more. Please contact Alisha Stair, Vice President of Member Engagement, at Alisha.Stair@lscu.coop if you are able to lend resources to a credit union in need.
