Former Board Member, Joseph Hardcastle, Passes Away

Joseph Allen Hardcastle, Joe, passed away after a brief illness on January 24, 2022 at the age of 95. He was born in Bowling Green, Kentucky to Robert and Beulah Hardcastle in 1926. He grew up in Bowling Green and joined the Navy after high school. He graduated from the University of Kentucky where he met his wife of 69 years, Martha Routt, of Pee Wee Valley, Kentucky. Joe joined Southern Bell (BellSouth/AT&T) in Louisville, Kentucky in 1950. He was promoted and transferred to Atlanta and then Jacksonville. He retired in 1988 as a District Manager with 38 years of service all in the Accounting Department. While working, Joe was elected to the Board of Directors for the Telco Credit Union (now 121 Financial Credit Union) and remained on the board for 58 years serving as President and Treasurer at different times.  He was also on the Board of Directors for the Florida Credit Union League. Joe volunteered with the Telephone Pioneers for many years serving as treasurer, vice-president, and president. Joe and Martha joined a square and round dancing club and enjoyed it for more than 20 years. He enjoyed golfing and bowling and was an active member in his church, Christian Family Chapel, where he served as Deacon for many years.

Joe is predeceased by his loving wife, Martha, brother James (Ethel), and sister Elaine (Bob Wingfield). He is survived by his four children, David, Carol (Ken Ackis), Steven (Eileen), and Janet (Calvin Johnson), eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, February 1, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Hardage Giddens Funeral Home, 11801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32223.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, February 2, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at Christian Family Chapel, 10365 Old St. Augustine Rd, Jacksonville, Florida 32257 and a graveside service at 2:45 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery, 4801 San Jose Blvd, Jacksonville, Florida 32207.
