Former Board Member Jerry Gill Passes Away

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and credit union champion Jerry Gill. Jerry was 90 years old. He passed away peacefully in Savannah, Georgia on March 2nd, 2022.

Jerry was born on November 16th, 1931, in Bogalusa, Louisiana. His family moved to Savannah when he was five years old. He attended public schools where he played basketball at Commercial High School and attended Armstrong Jr. College. He was a member of the Dog CO United States Marine Corps Reserve and was called to active duty in 1950 where he served in the Korean War.

He was a volunteer at the Georgia Heritage Federal Credit Union for more than 42 years where he received the Volunteer of the Year Award, Lifetime Achievement Award, and Credit Union House Hall of Leaders Award, which is displayed in Washington, DC at the Credit Union House. After retirement, he worked with the Georgia Credit Union Affiliates (now the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates) for 12 years. He was a volunteer with the United Service Organizations (USO) for 20 years and was a member of the Veterans Council League for many years.

Jerry was a Georgia credit union legend who always helped out at conventions and events. A champion of the credit union movement, he was instrumental in lobbying many legislators. Everyone loved Jerry, and he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Louise Freeman Gill of 69 years; daughter, Cynthia Horne (Bobby); son, Jerry Marshall Gill Jr. (Leslie); granddaughter, Morgan Matte (Jacob); and great-granddaughter, Molly Matte.
